Private fund managers leaped onto the fast-moving generative artificial intelligence trend in 2023, with some starting the new year already using models in their deal sourcing and investment processes – and many on track to make fast progress this year.

CEPRES, a global predictive data analytics provider for private markets, jumped into the generative AI arena last year. CEO Dr. Daniel Schmidt stated that CEPRES' massive warehouse of historical private fund data is the 'gasoline to run these machines.' The tools have helped CEPRES expand its analysis to predict investment return drivers for portfolio companies from thousands of factors to hundreds of thousands of variables, as well as apply the technology to higher-level tasks like spotting abnormalities, he said.
“What we can now do with AI in the last three months was more than what was possible in the last 10 years,” he said. “It’s the ability to not just scrape the data but also analyze the data.”
